MiG-23UB ou MiG-23UM?

Les MiG-23UB basés en R.D.A. ont parfois été désignés MiG-23UM. Il semblerait que cette appellation controversée puisse être correcte. Un premier exemplaire de MiG-23UB fut en effet modifié en 1984 afin d'offrir une plateforme de conversion opérationnelle plus adaptée à la progression vers les nouvelles version ML et P du MiG-23. La production du MiG-23UB ayant cessé en 1978, des appareils furent mis à jour lors de leur passage en grande visite dans les centres d'entretien (ARZ). Bien que les appareils modifiés ne reçurent pas de nouvelle désignation, ils étaient parfois dénommés MiG-23UM de manière non officielle. MiG-23UB based in Germany have sometimes been referred to as MiG-23UM. It seems that this controversial designation could have been correct. A MiG-23UB has been upgraded in 1984 to meet the demand for a more capable combat trainer, following the introduction into service of the MiG-23ML and P models. Despite the fact that production of the MiG-23UB has ceased in 1978, some aircraft were modified at military repair plants (ARZ). Although there was no official designation for the upgraded models, they were sometimes unofficially referred to as MiG-23UM. UM models were externally identical to UB versions.
