PVO radar site

Panoramic view of the radar warning station "Alabad" of the 412.RLP (Radiolokatsionnogo Posta) at Gebaberg in 1990. The radar detection sites of the anti-aircraft defence close to the border between the FRG and the GDR, were equipped with an helicopter landing pad for Mi-24s (landing pad n°265 here). The latter were standing on alert to intercept any slow flying target (light aircraft, helicopters or spy balloons) that were approaching too close to the East German border. The 412.RLP was subordinated to the 46.ORTB (Otdel'nyy Radiotekhnicheskyy Batalion). That unit was part of the 8.GvOA. This site is now a museum.
