A gauche, un MiG-27D. Le carénage de l'une des antennes du transpondeur SO-69 est resté inchangé lors de la conversion de cet ancien MiG-27 aux standards du MiG-27D. Sa forme est plus anguleuse que celle du MiG-27M à droite. On distingue sur le côté de ce carénage une des antennes du SPO-15L. Au-dessus, dépassant du bord de fuite, il y avait une antenne Pion-NM du RSBN Korall-I. Tout en haut de la dérive, cachée dans la partie arrière du carénage diélectrique, se trouvait une antenne du SRO-1P. La partie avant du carénage et son prolongement sur le bord d'attaque de la dérive concernait la radio R-864B démontée. A peine visible sur la photo du MiG-27D mais clairement distinguable sur celle du MiG-27M, la barre verticale au-dessus de l'étoile rouge était une autre antenne du SO-69.

On voit bien sur la photo du MiG-27D que le carénage oblong situé au niveau de la jonction de l'arête dorsale et de la dérive faisait l'objet d'une tôle rapportée, contrairement au MiG-27M. C'est là que se trouvait l'étage de sortie HF (bloc B5B-JL) de la radio R-864B qui fut démonté. Si ce carénage était présent de l'autre côté de la dérive, sa tôle ne présentait pas le même aspect. La trappe de visite à gauche du carénage abritait l'enregistreur des paramètres de vol.

A MiG-27D tail is shown at left. The fairing of one of the antennas of the SO-69 transponder remained unchanged when this former MiG-27 was upgraded to MiG-27D standards. Its shape is more angular than that of the MiG-27M on the right. One of the SPO-15L antennas is mounted on the side of that fairing. A Pion-NM antenna of the RSBN Korall-I was protruding from the trailing edge, above it. An antenna of the SRO-1P was located at the very top of the vertical fin, hidden in the rear part of the dielectric fairing. The front part of the fairing and its extension on the leading edge of the fin was related to the normally disassembled R-864B radio. The vertical bar above the red star - barely visible in the MiG-27D photo but clearly distinguishable in the MiG-27M photo - was another antenna of the SO-69.

On the MiG-27D, the oblong fairing located where the vertical fin joined the fin extension, clearly was the subject of an added metal sheet, unlike on the MiG-27M. This is where the HF output stage (block B5B-JL) of the R-864B radio was located before being dismantled. While this fairing was present on the other side of the vertical fin, the shape of the metal plate was different. The inspection hatch to the left of the fairing housed the flight parameters recorder.
