Comme on peut le constater sur la photo du bas, les spécialistes américains n'ont pas tardé à jeter un coup d'oeuil sur les entrailles de l'engin ! Le MiG a par la suite été démonté sur place. On voit bien sur cette image qu'il s'agissait d'un "Fresco-A" muni d'un réacteur VK-1A dépourvu de post-combustion. La forme et la position de l'aérofrein constituent également un indice.
