The Heidehof air-to-ground firing range that encompassed Markendorf, Merzdorf and Holbeck was located east of Jüterbog. The firing range covered an area of approximately 12,000 hectares.
At left, a firing range control tower.
Top right, a drop tank abandoned on the field.
Below right, a P-50Sh bomb. This bomb was used to train aircrews in the use of parachute-retarded bombs. A flare with a parachute was attached to the rear of the bomb and detached from it when dropped.
Bombing accuracy was measured at the point of fall of the flare, not that of the bomb body.
